About The SERVICE ADVISOR CAREER
An automotive Service Advisor is the face of the business, and it’s your job to create trust and build long-term relationships with customers. The Service Advisor serves as a liaison between the technician and the customer, and needs to be able to communicate with both effectively. They must explain repair recommendations in layman’s terms to their customers, while also briefing mechanics on customer needs and managing repair schedules.
If variety is what you’re seeking, then becoming a Service Advisor can be a great career choice. The typical daily job duties of an automotive service writer include:
- Greeting customers when they arrive and gathering information related to issues or services required during their visit.
- Writing up customer information and generating a Repair Order.
- Communicating customer information to a technician.
- Inputting customer and vehicle information into a customer relationship management system (or DMS) and service database.
- Updating the customer in regard to the status of their vehicle.
- Presentation of the MPI (Multi-point inspection executed by the technician) results to the customer.
- Delivering the vehicle and processing payment in a prompt manner.
